The top of the plate has a lid which is secured by two turning stops. The inside of the lid has a metal prong. On the bottom side, the plate has a tray that slides out of the end on the opposite face to the door, revealing the inside of the plate.

Fair. The object shows significant signs of use. The wood varnish is worn away in parts, perhaps by contact with chemicals. There are smudges and scratches across the surface of the slide. The leather strap is broken off at the base. The metal components are stained and somewhat corroded. The inside of the slide is blacked by photographic chemicals.
